Out of Paris and Along the Coast

Twelve hours is a long day and about five of it is driving. Stops are short: 30 minutes at Omaha Beach and the battery each is enough for a look and a photo, not for lingering. A minivan beats a 50-seat coach for pace, but the road time is the same.

Closures That Can Change the Day

A restoration project at Pointe du Hoc runs through mid-2027, so parts of the site may be closed even though public access is kept open. The American Cemetery closes on 25 December and 1 January, and the Overlord Museum may be replaced by the American Cemetery Visitor Center in case of exceptional closure. Around the 6 June anniversary, commemorations run over roughly 4 to 7 June, roads between Caen, Bayeux, Arromanches and the beaches jam, and the cemetery ceremony is by invitation only.
